West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed strong objections to being excluded from recent discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In a letter to PM Modi, Banerjee voiced her dissatisfaction with the Centre's approach to the talks, particularly concerning the water-sharing agreement with Bangladesh.
Banerjee, who has consistently opposed the Teesta water-sharing treaty, stated that the exclusion of West Bengal from these significant negotiations is unacceptable. She argued that such discussions should involve the state government, given the close relationship between Kolkata and Dhaka.
"Such unilateral deliberations and discussions without consultation and the opinion of the state government are neither acceptable nor desirable," Banerjee stated in her letter, highlighting her frustration over the Centre’s unilateral approach.
